'Arsenal Double Club'

Following the success of Arsenal Double Club at Alexandra Park School, this year saw the expansion of the scheme to Rhodes Avenue; Our Lady of Muswell; and St.Martin of Porres Primary Schools.
Arsenal Double Club is an innovative education and football programme which offers literacy & numeracy lessons together with football coaching.
The prestige of Arsenal Football Club and the popularity of playing football is the inspiration behind the Arsenal Double Club. The scheme has met with overwhelmingly positive reviews from all involved.
The aim is to raise student’s confidence and ability levels in literacy & numeracy, by using teaching resources about Arsenal and football. These literacy sessions happen during lunch time delivered by PLT’s; TA’s and APS SSCo, whilst the football coaching has happened during breakfast clubs, with APS sports leaders assisting APS’ SSCo.
The programme has dual benefits for both APS sportsleaders and Primary students. Senior students following their GCSE PE / BTEC First Sport course, get special AFC Double Club Mentor training & Yr 6’s from Rhodes Avenue get a taste of PE lessons based at Alexandra Park School, for many their secondary school of choice, as well as a chance to mix with older students.
All students who show a commitment to the course have been rewarded with a tour of Emirates Stadium, home of Arsenal Football Club and a trip to the club Museum. ‘Golden Boot’ awards are presented to the students who demonstrate the most improvement over the course of the programme, whether it be in spelling, grammar, numeracy or positive behaviour. APS Double Club student mentors were rewarded with complementary tickets, to see the FA Cup match versus Hull.
Congratulations go to Rhodes Avenue DC & St.Martins DC who won the end of year 'Double Club 5-aside Football Festival' held at Alexandra Park School, before students set off for their tour of Emirates Stadium.
Many thanks should go to all the staff & volunteers who have freely given up their time to make the scheme such a resounding success.
